The Debt Diet (Ellie Kay)- Book Review ( I reviewed this book in 2005)

Ellie Kay is known as America's Family Financial Expert

When her and her husband got married they had $40,000 in consumer debt.

Within two and a half years they were debt free.

Research by the Federal Reserve indicates:  "Household debt is at a record high relative to disposable income.  Some analysts are concerned that this unprecedented level might pose a risk to the financial health of American households."

See what money attitudes you can discover from famous people in the following money - wealth quotes:

Happiness is not based on money, and the best proof of that is our family .... Christiana Onasis

Said of money:  "I don't necessarily like it, but it quiets my nerves."  .... Joe Lewis

I'd like to live as a poor man with lots of money.  .... Pablo Picasso

When asked, "How much is enough money?" the billionaire didn't hesitate and replied, "Always just a little more." .... J. Paul Getty

A wealthy man is one who earns $100 (one hundred dollars) a year more than his wife's sister's husband. ..... H. L. Mencken

Three Basic Reasons Why People Who "make it" in terms of monetary or material success do not find fulfillment in the wealth itself:

1.  Emotional Satisfaction - Money doesn't emotionally satisfy a human being.

2.  Person Priorities - Whether we're rich or poor, we have to set boundaries in the areas of relationships, work, and community.

3.  Purpose - We'd like to believe we are here for a specific purpose beyond that of simply accumulationg wealth.

By finding purpose - bringing it out in ourselves and in others and putting it to good use, we find true wealth - a wealth that stock market down turns or economic slumps cannot take away.

Who would have thought way back when the author and her husband were struggling to pay down their $40K-debt that one day, their "problem" would be turned around to help save the lives of one million strangers in a far away land.
